Dunbeath is a small harbour village located on the A9, north of Helmsdale but south of Latheron, where Dunbeath Water flows into the North Sea.   It features in the writings of Neil Gunn, who grew up in the locality, and a statue to Neil’s memory can be seen at the Harbour side. It depicts Kenn, a character from Neil’s novel Highland River. As well as a castle, Dunbeath has one of the best Heritage Centres in the area - a must for any visitor.
